According to mom, he would fly into Ketchikan, and then travel to his home port. I remember grandpa always talking about his "Ketchikan Tennis Shoes" and referring to his knee high rubber boots. It seems that in Ketchikan, it rains so much that they measure it in feet, not inches. No wonder they'd need rubber boots so much!

This quilt is the North American mystery quilt from Heart to Hand. I chose my own colors of blacks and reds after seeing so much of those colors combined during a trip to Alaska. I quilted it with a pantograph called "Log Cabin" and it contains wool batting. It's so warm, and so light at the same time. The quilt measures 54"x80", has a solid black backing with 2 shades of grey thread for the quilting. Lighter on top, darker in the bobbin. The fabrics for the quilt are 100% cotton, but with the wool batting, I would recommend machine wash and dry flat or on the line. $250.00

"Tea Time"

As a quilter, I am also ending up with little bits of fabric, also known as "Strings". They are too big to throw away, but too small to really do anything with. However, since my grandmother taught me to "Waste not, want not." I had to keep them. Finally I remembered my book "Strips and Strings" and browsed through that. An entire book based on using up those little leftover bits of fabric! I pulled out all the blue strings that I could find from my bin, and didn't even make a dent in the bin. Add to that some white for setting squares, and soon Tea Time was born. Although rather an innovative idea of using the strings, the setting is traditional, and I decided it needed a traditional quilting design. Feathered wreaths in the setting squares, a feather meander in the blue portion of the blocks. There is a narrow white border which has tiny little feathers in it. I do seem to love my feathers. This quilt measures 49"x49", and has a polyester batting so that it has more loft than the cotton batts. The fabrics are 100% cotton, machine wash and dry. $150

Pretty in Pinks

This quilt was something fun and quick to work on. The bright green fabric was from a recent project, and it just called to me to make it into something. The pinks are also all from my stash, so it's wonderfully scrappy. The whole quilt is made from simple 1/2 square triangles. The quilt measures 40"x45", is 100% cotton fabrics and batting. The majority of these shirts were given to me by my friend Adam from the biking group "Butts on Bikes" (BoB) So many times the organized rides will have a shirt that you can purchase to commemorate your ride, and that's what we used here. Eventually, the shirts either are too worn to wear, or you've got new ones from more recent rides. By letting me turn them into a quilt, you'll have warm memories of your rides for many years to come.

Quilts are $10 per block completed as shown.
